On March 13 at approximately 1:00 PM, the FCCLA Chapter at the High School will be holding a Distracted Driving Mock Accident Awareness Event. Attending this event will be all 9-12 students (unless opting out by parent request). Grades 7 & 8 will not be attending. We will have emergency vehicles, EMT, Highway Patrol, Pettis Co Sheriff, Fire Dept and potentially a helicopter landing on the football field. We want everyone to spread the word to the local community so that people will know what is going on and not be distressed. We will be showing students what happens during and after an accident with our FCCLA members participating in the event. Our chapter chose this event to present a National FCCLA Program: FACTS (Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety). This year Missouri FCCLA & MoDot partnered with local FCCLA chapters to increase awareness of distracted driving and provided a grant for local chapters. Teens are at high risk of driving without their full attention on the road and the task of driving. Our members wanted to time this activity to coincide with prom, thinking that students might be more distracted during this time. Distracted driving means driving while texting, when overly tired, under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The last event of this type was held in 2016, and our members thought it was time to focus on the issue once again. One moment of inattention can have serious consequences.

UPDATE on WATER: The high school does have water today. However, the high school is under a boil order so students may not drink out of water fountains. The school is providing bottled water for all students at the high school today (Jan 18th) and tomorrow.

A great big thank you to all of our bus drivers and maintenance/custodial staff! These individuals have gone out of their way to make sure that we have safe, working facilities and transportation to school. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that make our school days possible. Please share your appreciation for these individuals. THANK YOU!
